The Cranford Christmas Special is a few years old now, but there’s something about Victorian things that always feels Christmassy and romantic. Perhaps it’s Charles Dickens’ fault (even though he was a less than kind man to his wife!). Or maybe it’s Queen Victoria and her husband’s fault.
This Christmas Special is based on a few novellas by Elizabeth Gaskell. The romantic storyline, starring Tom Hiddleston and Jodie Whittaker is based on The Moorland Cottage, a novella I actually really enjoy. It’s very changed for the show – even the characters’ names – but I like both versions.
I have no idea how legal it is, but the series can be found on YouTube.
