Pride and Prejudice Anniversary

Tomorrow is the twenty-second anniversary of the premiere of the Jennifer Ehle/Colin Firth Pride and Prejudice (otherwise known as “the one people love because Mr Darcy jumps in a murky pond”).

This is the Jane Austen adaptation that changed everything.

It’s not my favourite, but it’s a gazillion times better than Pride and Prejudice and Pigs – I still enjoy it a lot. And it is definitely the favourite version of most true Jane Austen fans.

  2. I thought I was the only person who preferred the 1980 version! Everyone is in love with this edition. Elizabeth Garvie /was/ Elizabeth, and the actresses who played the 80s version of Mrs. Bennet and Miss Bingley really did a fabulous job. Granted, the production values were nowhere up to the standard of the 90s version.
The man who played Wickham did a great job of being slimy. (The actor went on to be Princess Diana’s vocal coach, and after her death made public several video interviews that she made with him privately. So maybe he was just playing himself.)

  3. Very funny review! For me I love the 1995 P and P it is may fave. I totally agree about the 2005 one the pigs the Bennets have 2 thousand a year. I do like the Garvie one it is good in it’s own way to. I remember quite liking David Rintoul as Darcy he was so hard to read but was interesting to watch.
