R.I.P. Emma Chambers

I mentioned her yesterday, but I think she deserves more.

I’m guessing most people in North America know Emma Chambers from the movie Notting Hill. I lived there just after the film came out, and we had movie tourists everywhere almost every day. I’d be dragging bags of washing to the laundrette and be accosted by people looking for “Hugh Grant’s blue door”!

Alice Tinker The Vicar of Dibley British

However, to so many of us she was Alice Tinker from The Vicar of Dibley. After Dawn French’s vicar, she was THE heart of the show.

Chambers died of “natural causes” a few days ago, only in her early fifties. I spent Sunday night watching my Vicar of Dibley DVDs and feeling very sad.
