It has been a week since the funeral of former US First Lady Barbara Bush.
I wanted to mention her because she chose literacy, and specifically children’s literacy, as her cause, and raised hundreds of millions towards it.
You can donate to her literacy organisation HERE.
Regardless of political affiliation, she was well-liked across the political spectrum, and didn’t always toe the party line (e.g. her views on women’s reproductive rights).
A few years ago I got my hands on a secondhand copy of her book Reflections: Life After the White House. I read it expecting to dislike her and her views, but instead I was surprised by her openness and her willingness to embrace people on both sides of politics.
I only wish there were people worthy of respect in the White House now.
