The Week 22nd – 28th April

Happy Easter – again! (I know – those aren’t pysanky in the bowl, but at least the embroidery is from Ukraine!)

The way the calendar works this year, it’s all too much in one go. Four days of Easter a week ago, and then Anzac Day here in Australia on Thursday, and now four more days of old-calendar/Ukrainian Easter – and then it’s Mother’s Day here a few days after that!

Winter just refuses to arrive in Canberra. Nearly two-thirds of the way through autumn, and the temperatures are still in the mid-twenties. No rain, either – which I’d be really happy to see at the moment…

At the Australian War Memorial (which is here in Canberra), after the national Anzac Day service. That’s my Vietnam veteran father, and in the second picture you can see me looking at a Vietnam War display inside the museum with him. (I need to brush up on this stuff; I’m currently editing another veteran’s book!)

It was shocking this year to see all extra security and all the concrete barricades along the length of Anzac Parade (the giant boulevard that connects the War Memorial to the rest of the city, and the place the service happens). Terrorism is changing the world very fast.

Nora Roberts sues Brazilian author, cites ‘multi-plagiarism’

I’m glad someone with this much power behind them is doing something about the spectacular acts of plagiarism committed by Cristiane Serruya, who – it was recently discovered – was plagiarising dozens upon dozens of books by well-known romance authors.

Serruya even had the audacity to enter her stolen work in the RITA Awards.

You can read more about what happened HERE.

Argh! How is it already autumn?! We’re still having temperatures in the low to mid-thirties in Canberra (in the nineties, if you measure in Fahrenheit), but the leaves are starting to change.

SYTYCW Blog: “Banish stylistic clichés!”

The latest in the current plagiarism drama.

Edited to add a link to a lengthy article covering this in detail, if you have the time to read it.

Here’s an updated look at what Cristiane Serruya has plagiarised. The list of books/articles/etc. she has stolen from keeps on growing,

For heaven’s sake, she even plagiarised Outlander!

What is so incredible is that she got away with it for so long. It is also incredible that so many book bloggers – people who should have recognised these original books – were giving her four and five-star reviews and not even noticing!

Also incredible: Serruya was not only entered in the RITA Awards, but was a judge!

Summer is nearly over here. As usual, the year is moving too fast!

Plagiarism Update

Yesterday, I mentioned that Courtney Milan was plagiarised. Well, that was just the tip of the iceberg.

Here is the current list of (known) people “author” Cristiane Serruya has stolen from. Only the biggest authors in the business!

I’d say I’m shocked by her boldness, but she has got away with this for ages, AND even entered her books in the RITA Awards – the biggest romance writing awards around.
