The weekend brought news of the death of Australian-born star of Britain’s Royal Ballet, Errol Pickford. After years in London he moved back to Perth to dance with the West Australian Ballet.
He was only fifty-one at the time of his death.
As the Bluebird in The Sleeping Beauty.
Pickford was known for his powerful dancing, and was famous for his performances in The Sleeping Beauty and Don Quixote.
Because you’re all probably busy being Christmassy right now, even though Christmas is finished here, I won’t bother you with boring book stuff!
Here is the Royal Ballet production of The Nutcracker. It is my favourite part of the ballet (to dance), the snow scene. However, this isn’t my favourite version. When we used to perform it we had snow falling through the whole dance, not just at the end. So much fun, even if one of my princes ruined it by joking about Clara getting hypothermia!
The music is gorgeous, however.
